Juilliard at Work is a professional development program under the auspices of Juilliard Extension. It draws on the creative arts and expertise of performing artists to help business professionals develop leadership, communication, and executive skills in new ways.

Led by Juilliard faculty, our workshops introduce innovative, arts-based strategies to enhance leadership, communication, and executive skills.   • Brian McManamon

    faculty

    Topic: Dramatic Techniques for  Effective Communication
    Led by actor, acting coach and Juilliard Extension drama faculty Brian McManamon 

    Brian McManamon is an actor, educator, and acting coach in New York City. As an actor, Brian is best known for his portrayal of the shape-shifting DC Comics villain Clayface on the FOX television show Gotham. On stage, Brian has appeared in dozens of world-premiere productions in New York and around the country. In addition to running a private acting studio in New York City, Brian teaches acting for the Juilliard School Extension Division and Syracuse University's Tepper Semester in New York City. He has taught and/or directed at The Juilliard School Drama Division, National Theater Institute (NTI), Vassar College, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Columbia University’s graduate acting program and the Public Theater. Brian holds a BFA in acting from Boston University and an MFA in acting from the Yale School of Drama.

  • Mark Shapiro

    Topic: Leadership Development: How to Manage a Team Like an Expert  
    Led by conductor and Juilliard Extension faculty, Mark Shapiro

    Mark Shapiro, conductor emeritus and former music director of the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra, leads orchestras, opera, and choruses in broad and diverse repertoire. He is music director of the Cecilia Chorus of New York, with which he has given 25 concerts in Carnegie Hall; artistic director of Cantori New York; and principal conductor of Marshall Opera. Honors include four ASCAP awards, two Alice Parker awards, a Dale Warland Commission, the Motif Award, and Opera News Editor’s Choice. Shapiro has led operas for Juilliard Vocal Arts, American Opera Projects, and the Center for Contemporary Opera, and he has been a teaching artist for Metropolitan Opera Young Artists. Recording labels include Albany, Naxos, Parma, and Newport Classics.

  • Noa Kageyama

    Topic: Peak Performance Mindset 
    Led by performance psychologist and Juilliard faculty Noa Kageyama 

    Performance psychologist Noa Kageyama is on the faculty at Juilliard and serves as performance psychology coach for the New World Symphony. He holds degrees from Oberlin (BA, psychology) and Juilliard (MM, violin performance), with advanced degrees in counseling psychology (MS, PhD) from Indiana University. Kageyama specializes in helping performing artists perform optimally under pressure and has led workshops for institutions including Northwestern, Curtis, Peabody, Eastman and others. Featured in the Wall Street Journal, NBC News, and other media outlets, Kageyama maintains a private coaching practice and authors the Bulletproof Musician blog and podcast which reaches 45,000+ subscribers every week.
